Zum vierten Mal fand der Kimberley Diamond Cup (KDC) (früher bekannt als Maloof Money Cup) in Kimberley, Süd Afrika statt. Kimberley ist im Zentrum des Landes und immer trocken und heiß. Der KDC wird von World Cup Skateboarding ausgetragen.

(Anmerkung der Red.: das ist keine „Weltmeisterschaft wie ich sie verstehen würde. Hier werden ausgesuchte Stars der Szene in ein weit entferntes Land geflogen um einen sog. World Cup auszutragen. Sicher etwas besser als die X-Games aber doch eher eine Show als ein richtiger Contest. Aber eine richtig gute wie Kents Photos zeigen)

The Kimberley Diamond Cup (KDC) (formerly known as the Maloof Money Cup) had its fourth annual instalment in the town of Kimberley, South Africa. Kimberely is in the centre of the country and is known to be hot and dry.

KDC is the street and vert skating “World Championships”, sanctioned by World Skateboarding Grand Prix.

(Ed. note: This is not a World Championship like I would understand. A few select stars are flown out to a far away part of the world to present a so called World Cup. Sure better than the X-Games but more of a show than a real contest. A real good one though as we see in Kents photos)

Vert skater aus aller Welt reisten nach Kimberley um bei den  Kimberley Diamond Cup 2014 Vert World Championships anzutreten und ihren Anteil an dem Preisgeld von 83.000,00 USD abzuholen.

Größen wie Andy MacDonald, Pierre-Luc Gagnon and Jake Brown waren da um nur einige zu nennen. Die jüngeren wurden angeführt von Jono Scwhan, Trey Wood, Mitch Brusco und dem  13-jährigen Girl Alana Smith.

Jimi Wilkins (USA) gewann den ersten Platz und 35.000,00 USD, Sandro Dias (BRA) und Elliot Sloan (USA) kamen auf Plätze 2 und 3.

Jimi´s tricks mit denen er die Konkurrenz abhängte waren riesige frontside ollies, bs 540s ollies, kicklip lien melon, alley oop tailgrab 540s und mehr.

Vert skaters from all over the world, travelled to Kimberley, South Africa to compete in the Kimberley Diamond Cup 2014 Vert World Championships and a shot at their share of US$83,000 . We had the like of longtime world vert stalwarts such as Andy MacDonald, Pierre-Luc Gagnon and Jake Brown to name a few. With the younger guard being headed up by vert rippers Jono Scwhan, Trey Wood, Mitch Brusco and 13 year old female Alana Smith. In the end, American Jimmy Wilkins took the win and the $35,000 grand prize with Brazilian Sandro Dias coming in 2nd, and American Elliot Sloan rounding off the top 3. Some of Jimmy’s tricks that gave him the edge over the competition were huge frontside ollies, bs 540 ollies, kickflip lien melon, alley hoop tailgrab 540, and more.

Big Air war auch noch und Jono Schwan machte einen heelflip body varial 360 über das gap und einen anschließenden 900 auf der quarterpipe. Mit 17 Jahren gewann der US boy damit den ersten Platz und 22.000,00 USD. Jono und sein Vater sind immer bei diesem Event dabei.

Ich unterhielt mich mit dem Vater auf der Vertramp und er erzählte mir, dass Jono jeden Abend im Hotel noch zusätzlich für de Schule lernen musste.

Next up was Big Air and Jono Schwan landed a heelflip body varial 360 over the gap to a 900 on the quarterpipe, getting the 17 year old American the win and a US$22,000 cash prize. Jono and his father have become regulars at this annual event, and chatting to his father on the deck of the vert ramp he was saying that every evening in the hotel in Kimberley Jono was doing schoolwork.

Beim Best Trick Contest auf der Mini-Megaramp schrieb Alana Smith Geschichte indem sie als erste Frau einen Backflip über das Gap stand. Sie gewann damit 5.000,00 USD.

Sie hatte vorher in vielen Versuchen einen Kickflip grab gebailt bis sie in den letzten Minuten des Contets den Backflip schaffte.

In the best trick on the mini-mega ramp, 13-year-old American Alana Smith also made history by becoming the first female skateboarder to land a backflip over the mini-mega ramp gap. Landing the backflip gave Alana the win and a cash prize of US$5000. She attempted the backflip over the gap several times after a few failed attempts at a kickflip grab, before finally nailing the backflip with just minutes to go in the session."
